The Stadia, and Why It Failed

“It is just a gimmick!” Many industry commentators said this is when, less than a year ago, Google announced its plans to enter the video game console market with a streaming platform, the Stadia. At first, the idea seemed like a pipe dream: how could a company that had struggled to make its own hardware compete with companies that had spent decades mastering the art of high-end gaming hardware?

The Stadia was a bold, ambitious project by Google to reinvent the gaming industry. The Stadia was Google itself announcing they were entering the hardware market and would be launching their own console. The Stadia was supposed to be the future of gaming, allowing the player to access their games anywhere, on any device. The Stadia is no more.

Since it was announced, the Stadia game streaming service has been met with a fair amount of excitement. Some have speculated that by making it free to play and, most importantly, free to upload your games to the cloud, Stadia might finally give the PC some real competition. Others thought that, with Stadia, the tech giant would fix the biggest problem with modern gaming: lack of storage space. But, as we’ve learned over the last few months, Stadia is nothing more than a glorified YouTube for video games. In fact, it’s much worse than that.

It was the result of a joint venture between Google and Huawei. The Stadia was supposed to be Google’s first step into the hardware market, while the latter was supposed to be using the former’s advertising and software services to gain a foothold in the American market. The Stadia was to be released in 2020 and cost gamers a little over $1000 to purchase.

While Google’s big GDC 2019 presentation will be remembered for the revelation that the Stadia will not be coming to the Nintendo Switch, there was more to the presentation than just that. In fact, the other big reveal was that the Stadia would be available for home use at a $129 price point when the service was supposedly be released. However, that price point was also the biggest problem with the Stadia, as it was alleged that the hardware was subpar and not capable of running the games that it said it could.

But the stadia is now discontinued, and they are about to be irrelevant. No one is buying the stadia anymore, and no one is making or licensing games for it.

In this article, we will be showing you some of the reasons why Google failed with this project.

  1. The company’s pitch is that it makes game streaming easier at a time when most game streaming services are notoriously difficult to use. But Google’s effort to differentiate itself from the competition isn’t just about ease of use – it’s also about first-party game development.

Many have said that there aren’t any games worth playing on the platform and – unlike traditional streaming – using the best vpn 2021 to access region-locked content is not an ideal workaround. This increases already present issues such as latency which can make multiplayer games difficult to compete in.

  1. The Stadia, which planned to stream high-end console and PC games to any of the Internet-connected devices, is a streaming-only console that ignores the gamer preference. This is one of the reasons why it has failed to take off with gamers, whose major concern is the quality of experience and the inability to download and store games.

Players are not being given the option to play the games on disc or download with the use of Stadia. Instead, they will need to sign up for a monthly subscription to be able to play the games that they want to.

  1. Another major flaw about The Stadia is that you can’t play it offline. If you lose your connection, or your internet goes down, you can’t play. This is a major problem since it is one of the most frequent causes of internet outages.

The company has not provided any information regarding when offline support will be implemented and has said that this feature is not on the top of their list of priorities for now. So you’ll need an internet connection to play any of the games that Stadia has to offer. Internet latency and lag can significantly impact the gaming experience and make games where high reaction speeds are necessary unplayable.

Those are some of the reason’s why The Stadia failed to make a big impact in the world of gaming.
